Chinese Company Name Score
Enter a company trade name and the founder birth data for a score from the five grids, three talents, useful elements and tones.
What is Chinese Company Name Score and what is it used for?
This page scores one company trade name. Enter the name in the Company name box (suffixes such as Co., Ltd. are stripped automatically, and what is left must be 2 to 10 characters long), the founder gender and that founder birth year, month, day, hour and minute, and the result shows four things: a total score, a breakdown of the four parts that make it up, the five grids and three talents read grid by grid, and the four pillars with the useful and adverse elements for that birth moment. The same trade name with the same birth data scores the same whenever it is submitted.
Strokes are counted by the received Kangxi form, and the grids are sums of those counts. A trade name has no boundary between a surname and a given name, so the addition follows the character count. Two characters use the single-surname single-given rule: Heaven is the first count plus one, Person is first plus last, Earth is the last count plus one, Outer is always 2, and Total is the sum of every stroke. Three and four characters use the two rules that fit a one-character or two-character surname. Five characters and above take another set: Heaven is still the first count plus one, Person is the first two added, Earth is the last two added, Total is every stroke, and Outer is Total minus Person. Each grid number is looked up in the 81-number table and rated good, fair or poor.
The three talents look only at the last digit of Heaven, Person and Earth. The digit sets an element: 1 and 2 Wood, 3 and 4 Fire, 5 and 6 Earth, 7 and 8 Metal, 9 and 0 Water. The three elements in a row are matched against the traditional 35 auspicious combinations; inside the table reads auspicious, outside reads weak.
The useful elements come from the founder birth time. The browser casts the four pillars from the solar date and time and picks the useful elements: with a birth city entered, the longitude corrects the clock to true solar time; without one, clock time is used. Four parts are weighted into the score: how far the trade name characters match the useful elements counts 0.4, measured as the matching character count over the total character count; the grid numbers count 0.3, where Person carries 1.2, Earth and Total 1 each, Heaven and Outer 0.5 each, divided by 4.2 to normalise; the three talents count 0.2, at 1.0 when auspicious and 0.35 when not; tones count 0.1, highest when the readings differ from character to character.
The score is what this set of traditional number rules computes. It carries no personal life phases and does not judge how well a trade name works in the market; the same trade name and the same birth data give everyone the same score. A rare or variant character missing from the Kangxi library cannot be scored and the page names which one has no stroke count; a name left with one character after the suffix is stripped, or made only of suffixes, cannot be scored either. This page rates a trade name already chosen and does not invent new company names; scoring a personal name is what the Chinese Name Score page does, and generating one is what the Chinese Name Generator page does.
FAQ
Which stroke count does the company name score use?
It is the Kangxi count. Heaven, Person, Earth, Outer and Total are all sums of stroke counts, so each character of the trade name is counted by its received form in the Kangxi Dictionary, often a few strokes above the everyday simplified writing, and some radicals carry a fixed rule. A character missing from that library cannot be scored; each count can be checked on the Kangxi Stroke Lookup page.
Should the suffix be typed in?
Either way. Full width and half width are unified first, spaces are removed, and suffixes are then stripped from the end in up to three rounds, so only the remaining trade name is scored. Fewer than two characters left, or more than ten, cannot be scored, and the page says which is the case.
Why is the founder birth time needed?
The useful elements come from the four pillars, and the pillars need a year, month, day, hour and minute to be cast. Fit with the useful elements carries a weight of 0.4 in the total, so another birth moment usually moves that part and the total with it. Enter the person who actually makes the operating decisions.
Is the grid rule the same for a two-character and a four-character name?
No. Two, three and four characters take the three additions used for a single or compound surname with a one or two character given name; five characters and above take another set where Outer is Total minus Person. The last-digit rule for the three talents and the 81-number table are the same in every set.
Does a high score mean the trade name is good?
It reports where the name stands on four things only: grid numbers, the three-talent combination, fit with the useful elements, and tones. It carries no business fortune and is not the only standard for choosing a name. Partners can each test the same trade name with their own birth data; each result reflects one chart, and this page does not merge charts.
