Qi Men Dun Jia Calculator
Free online Qi Men Hour school on a rotating plate; Split-and-Supplement or Intercalation layout; nine palaces with spirits, stars, doors, stems, palace detail, formations and true solar time.
AI read-out
After the board is cast, the result page has an "AI read-out" with a ready-made prompt for the Qi Men Dun Jia board: chart setup, nine stars, eight gates and the nine-palace layout. Copy the full text and paste it into the LLM platform you usually use, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or DeepSeek.
What this Qi Men board does
Qi Men Dun Jia places heaven-plate Eight Spirits, earth-plate Earth Spirits, Nine Stars, Eight Doors, both plate stems and hidden stems on the Luo Shu nine palaces for the cast moment you choose. This page is a free online cast: the full board is computed in your browser with no install and no account.
One cast matches one moment and one chart setup. One matter per cast: the optional question field labels what you asked; change the matter or the moment and cast again instead of forcing a new question onto an old board.
For a birth chart with luck cycles, use the BaZi Chart. For Liu Yao loading or Mei Hua body-and-function reading, see the Liu Yao Hexagram Calculator and Mei Hua Hexagram Calculator pages.
Hour school, layout method and rotating plate
This site casts Hour school only: the hour branch anchors the board, which is the usual choice for timing. The result subtitle lists chart type, layout method and plate style, then adds the yin or yang chart number and place after the board loads.
Layout method is Split and Supplement or Intercalation; they cut solar terms and the Three Periods differently, so chart number and decade head can shift. Default Intercalation is fine when you are comparing methods.
Plate style is fixed as the rotating plate: the classic palace shift for stars, doors and spirits. Flying plate and Day, Month or Year school are not offered.
Qi Men cast form
The optional question is one sentence. Cast time accepts solar or lunar dates with a leap month toggle; year, month, day, hour and minute are all required and you pick the clock time directly (there is no hour-unknown checkbox on this page).
Cast city is optional: with a city, clock time folds to true solar time by longitude before the cast; leave it empty to use the clock time as entered. Submit once to open the result page with the nine-palace grid and Basic Info on the same screen.
After the cast: Luo Shu grid and Basic Info
One scroll, no tabs: the Luo Shu nine-palace grid on top (tap a palace for Palace detail underneath), then Basic Info below. Your question, chart type, chart number, four pillars, solar term, Chief and Envoy all sit in those two blocks—not in a duplicate summary strip above the grid.
Above the grid, two lines label this cast: your question or the cast date and time, then Hour school, Split and Supplement or Intercalation, and the rotating plate, then the yin or yang chart number and true solar place once the board is ready. Term, decade head and similar details also appear in the centre palace cell and in Basic Info.
Nine palaces: spirits, stars and doors
Each directional cell uses four fixed rows (same layout as the result page): row 1 centre Eight Spirits on the heaven plate (UI label “Eight Spirits”); row 2 centre Nine Stars with the Qin lodging stem and heaven stem on the sides; row 3 centre Eight Doors with lodging and earth stems; row 4 centre Earth Plate Spirits with the palace trigram and hidden stems. Corner chips mark Chief, Envoy, void, tomb, punishment and door pressure.
The centre cell has no spirits, stars or doors, only its label, the chart number line and the earth stem. Tap a palace and Palace detail lists Eight Spirits, Nine Stars, Eight Doors, heaven and earth stems, Earth Plate Spirits, hidden stems, life stages and formations, plus day and hour void branches and the Travel Star palace.
Chart number, term and period
The solar term, Three Periods and layout method set the chart number together. Under Hour School and Split and Supplement, 15 March 1990 falls in Awakening of Insects, Upper Period, Yang cycle number one; Basic Info prints the full term window.
Changing the layout method (Split and Supplement / Intercalation) recalculates chart number, Chief and Envoy; Basic Info and the subtitle both show the combination you submitted.
Chief, Envoy and palace reading
The decade head sets Chief and Envoy. In the example, a Wuchen hour in the Jiazi decade puts the Tianpeng star in palace 1 and the Xiu door in palace 2, with Noble and lodging marked on the grid.
Tap a palace for its reading: Eight Spirits, Nine Stars, Eight Doors, heaven and earth stems, Earth Plate Spirits, hidden stems, life stages and formations, plus day and hour void branches and the Travel Star palace.
Basic Info, formations and your question
Below the grid, Basic Info opens with Cast input: it echoes what you typed on the form (question, cast mode, clock time and city) separately from Chart time, which shows the moment used for the calculation.
Next come the four pillars table (same stems as the BaZi Chart page but only for this cast), chart time rows (date with optional true solar city line, chart type, solar term window), chart data (decade head, period, yang or yin chart number, Chief, Envoy, Travel Star) and stem strength by season.
Board-wide formations appear only when the rules find them; some casts show palace formations or fu-yin marks without that block. A question you enter becomes the first line under the chart title and is saved in the result link with chart type and layout method.
Cast city and true solar time
The same clock time with different cast cities can fold to different true solar times, shifting the hour pillar and duty placements while the term and period may stay unchanged.
Example: 07:30 on 15 March 1990 stays in the Chen hour at Beijing (07:05) but enters Mao hour at Urumqi (05:10), moving Chief, Envoy and formation lines. An empty city casts from clock time with no true solar line on the date row.
FAQ
What is true solar time for?
Once a city is chosen, the clock time is converted to true solar time from the local longitude, and the cast uses that.
Where is a Qi Men record stored?
A record holds only the Qi Men casting values entered: chart type, layout method, plate style, the cast moment with calendar and leap month, the question, and the cast city if one was selected. The result link rebuilds the same board from that record; no page lists records: the link is the only way back to it and is not shown elsewhere; to keep it from others, do not share it.
Why only Hour school?
This site casts Hour school only: the hour branch anchors the board, which is the usual choice for timing. The result subtitle shows Hour school, your layout method (Split and Supplement or Intercalation) and the rotating plate, then adds the chart number and place. Day, Month and Year schools are not offered.
Why only the rotating plate?
This site uses the rotating plate only: the classic palace shift for stars, doors and spirits. Flying plate is not offered. You can still choose Split and Supplement or Intercalation for the layout method.
Why is Board-wide Formations missing on some casts?
That block prints only when the engine finds board-wide formations. Some casts show palace formations, fu-yin style marks, or cell colours for void, tomb entry, punishment and door pressure without a global list. Stem strength by season and the solar term window still appear in Basic Info.
How does this relate to the BaZi chart page?
The result lists cast four pillars with the same stem-branch rules as BaZi, but the purpose differs: Qi Men fixes the cast moment for the nine palaces; BaZi fixes birth time for luck cycles. To keep those pillars as a natal chart, save them separately on the BaZi Chart page.
