Da Liu Ren Cast

Enter a solar moment to cast the four lessons, three transmissions and twelve-palace ring, with an optional city and birth year, plus the heavenly generals, hidden stems, void branches and symbolic stars.

Four Lessons, Then Three Transmissions

A Da Liu Ren board starts with four lessons: the day stem sits below, the sky-plate branch over the palace the stem lodges in becomes its upper spirit, and the sky-plate branch over that upper spirit’s palace becomes its yin spirit; the day branch yields the same pair. From those four the three transmissions are taken — the first from the lessons, the middle as the sky-plate branch over the first transmission’s palace, the last by the same step again — so the start, the turn and the close of the matter sit on three branches. The twelve-palace ring adds the heavenly generals, hidden stems, elements, strength, life stages, day officers and symbolic stars to every palace.

Counting three lunar figures around six palaces is the Xiao Liu Ren Cast; nine stars turning through the Luo Shu palaces is the Taiyi Nine Star Cast. Da Liu Ren reads the lessons above the day stem and branch, and the transmissions taken from them.

One Moment, One Board

Solar 25 October 2026, 10:30. The four pillars are Bingwu, Wuxu, Renshen and Yisi; it is a day casting; the month general is Mao (Taichong); the day pillar stands in the Jiazi decade, so the void branches are Xu and Hai. The stem Ren lodges in the Hai palace and the sky plate over Hai is You, so the first lesson is You over Ren; taking the same step on gives You/Ren, Wei/You, Wu/Shen and Chen/Wu. The first transmission is Wu, the middle is Chen — the sky-plate branch over Wu — and the last is Yin over Chen: Wu, Chen, Yin. The board is named Renshen day, eleventh board, You above the stem, and the pattern is Yuanshou. Each transmission carries its general and six relation: Wu with Tianhou (wife-wealth), Chen with Tengshe (officer-ghost), Yin with Liuhe (offspring); the hidden stems run Geng, Wu and Bing.

The Chain Follows The Sky Plate

The transmissions are not cast separately: the first is fixed among the lessons, the middle is the sky-plate branch over the first transmission’s palace, and the last is the sky-plate branch over the middle’s palace. On the board above, Chen stands over Wu and Yin over Chen, so the chain runs Wu to Chen to Yin.

Change the hour and the whole chain moves. Cast the same day at 22:10 and the hour pillar is Xinhai: the board becomes Renshen day, fifth board, Mao above the stem, the pattern is Chongshen, and the transmissions run Wei, Hai, Mao. Hai is void in this decade, so that transmission has no hidden stem. Enter a birth year of 1990 and male, and two more rows join the board: natal pillar Gengwu and annual position Renyin.

Month General By Centre Term, Void By Decade

The month general is the palace the sun occupies at the casting moment and changes at each solar centre term; the void branches are the two missing from the decade that holds the day pillar, and Xu and Hai are void in the Jiazi decade, which is why the board above marks them. The three horses follow the day branch too: on that board they are Yin (post horse), Mao (Ding horse) and Xu (heavenly horse).

The twelve-palace board lays the branches in a ring: in each cell the lower row is the earth-plate branch and the upper row the heaven-plate branch, and the heavenly general follows the heaven-plate branch. The first transmission’s palace is selected by default; select any cell to read its hidden stem, element, strength, life stage, day officer and the symbolic stars that fall there. Natal pillar and annual position are optional and come as a pair — a birth year alone yields no annual position.

FAQ

How does Da Liu Ren differ from Xiao Liu Ren or Liu Yao?

Da Liu Ren sets four lessons from the day stem and the day branch of the moment, takes three transmissions from those lessons, and lays heavenly generals, hidden stems and spirits across the twelve palaces. Xiao Liu Ren counts three lunar figures around six palaces; Liu Yao raises a base and changed hexagram and loads na jia with self and other lines. The inputs and the boards are all different.

Where is a cast record stored?

A record holds only the values entered for this cast: the solar year, month, day, hour and minute, the city if one was chosen, the birth year and sex, and the question. The result link rebuilds the same board from that record; no page lists records: the link is the only way back to it and is not shown elsewhere; to keep it from others, do not share it.

Why enter a city?

A city folds longitude into minutes of true solar time before the double-hour is fixed; without one, the clock hour is used as chosen. The fold can cross into another double-hour, and the four lessons and three transmissions change with it.

Can the year of birth be left out?

Yes. The year of birth gives the stem and branch of the birth year, and the yearly position is counted from it by gender up to the casting year; the two go together, so a birth year alone yields no yearly position. Without them the board leaves both lines out and the rest of the cast is unchanged.
