Taiyi Nine Star Cast
Pick a layer — year, month, day, double-hour or the minute split — and cast. Four rows name each star on duty with its element, palace, direction, Luo Shu number, colour and verse, plus the relation to the day stem.
Four Rows, One Star On Duty Each
A Taiyi board lays out the nine stars taking turns through the nine Luo Shu palaces — once a year, once a month, once a day and once again every double-hour. A cast sets year, month, day and hour side by side, and each row prints the star on duty for that layer, its three alternative names (Northern Dipper, Xuan Kong and Qi Men), the Qi Men fortune, polarity and gate, its element, the palace and direction it falls in, its Luo Shu number, its colour, and its verse in the folded list. The layer you cast carries the Main star mark, and the page head names that same star.
Counting three lunar figures around six palaces belongs to the Xiao Liu Ren Cast; birth pillars and luck cycles belong to the BaZi Chart; the four lessons and three transmissions are the Da Liu Ren Cast.
Change The Layer, Change The Star
Solar 25 October 2026, 14:30. The four pillars are Bingwu, Wuxu, Renshen and Dingwei; that day carries the Xu mansion (inauspicious), the Kai day officer and the Jinkui heavenly deity (auspicious), and all four rows share those. What changes with the layer is the star on duty: the year row runs Taiyi — Kan, due north, One White, Water; the month row runs Tianyi — Li, due south, Nine Purple, Fire; the day row runs Xianchi — Dui, due west, Seven Red, Metal; the hour row runs Tianfu — centre palace, Five Yellow, Earth. The main star moves, so its element against the day stem (Ren, Water) moves too: shared qi on the year row, the day stem controls the month row, the day row supports the day stem, and the hour row controls it.
Element Relation And Daily Signs
Once the main star is set the board looks at two things: its element against the day stem, which comes out as one of five relations — shared qi, supporting, controlling, controlled, supported — and the day’s signs, listed line by line: whether the main star is an auspicious, inauspicious or neutral spirit, the fortune of the day’s mansion, the fortune of the heavenly deity on duty, and the leaning of the Jianchu day officer.
Cast the day row of that moment and the favourable column holds three lines — the Jinkui deity is auspicious, the Kai officer favours things getting done, the star’s element supports the day stem — while the caution column holds two: Xianchi is an inauspicious spirit, and the Xu mansion is inauspicious.
The Minute Split Adds A Fifth Row
The minute split counts on from the hour row in ten-minute steps, six steps to an hour, to break down the rhythm inside one double-hour. Choosing it adds a fifth row under the hour row and marks which step and which minute range the moment falls in. At 14:30 the step is 4 (30–39 minutes), the star on duty becomes Taiyin — Gen, northeast, Eight White, Earth — and Taiyin becomes the main star.
The four layers, the mansion, the officer and the deity stay printed as they were; only the relation to the day stem is recomputed for the new main star.
FAQ
What does the Taiyi nine-star board lay out, and how does it differ from Qi Men or Liu Yao?
This board lays out the nine stars taking turns through the nine Luo Shu palaces: each row gives the star on duty, its three alternative names, its element, palace, Luo Shu number, colour and verse, and the reading then looks at the element relation between the main star and the day stem. A Qi Men cast lays out heaven and earth plate stems with stars and eight gates; Liu Yao raises a base and changed hexagram and loads na jia with self and other lines. The inputs and the boards are all different.
Where is a cast record stored?
A record holds only the values entered for this cast: layer, solar year, month, day, hour, minute, city (only when chosen) and the question. The result link rebuilds the same board from that record; no page lists records: the link is the only way back to it and is not shown elsewhere; to keep it from others, do not share it.
Why choose a layer? Does the board change for the same moment?
The nine stars change value once per year, month, day and double-hour, so at one moment each of the four layers has its own star on duty, and the main star, its palace and its verse follow the layer. At solar 2026-10-25 14:30 the year layer has Taiyi on duty — Kan, due north, One White, Water; the day layer has Xianchi — Dui, due west, Seven Red, Metal; the hour layer has Tianfu — centre palace, Five Yellow, Earth. The mansion, officer, heavenly deity and four pillars stay the same across those rows; only the star on duty changes.
Is the minute split a fifth main board?
The main boards are four: year, month, day and hour. The minute split counts on from the hour row in ten-minute steps, six steps to an hour, to break down the rhythm inside one double-hour; it does not replace the four main boards. For the moment above it falls in step 4 (30–39 minutes), with Taiyin on duty — Gen, northeast, Eight White, Earth.
